Liscarroll Donkey Sanctuary
Liscarroll Donkey Sanctuary is located just 14 miles from Mountain View B&B. Free entry (donations welcome) & dogs allowed on leads. Stroll along the "farm walk" where you can meet the donkeys in their paddocks & stroke them. There is picnic area, gift shop & video information room. Why not order a packed lunch from us the evening before your visit?
This is the only registered charity in Ireland dedicated to rescuing & rehoming neglected & abandoned donkeys, mules & jennets. With the recession they are now busier than ever caring for donkeys that people sadly can no longer afford to keep. The dedicated staff care for over 100 donkeys at the Sanctuary & up to 400 more at Hannigans Farm nearby.
Some of the stories of cruelty & neglect will break your heart but to see them safe & relaxing in the fields is uplifting to say the least. All the rescued donkeys have a home for life at the Sanctuary and some of the younger ones are fostered out to new approved homes. Several donkeys are available for the public to "adopt" your donation helps towards their upkeep & get you get regular newsletters sent to you throughout the year letting you know how your donkey is getting on.
Liscarroll itself has a small playground with picnic area next to Liscarroll Castle where younger children to let off a bit of steam.
Doneraille Park is just a short drive away on the way into Mallow. Why not stop off & see the deer & walk around the lakes. It has a large children's play area. See my photo gallery for more information.
