We are located just over 1 hour's drive from Cork & Shannon airports, Kerry International airport is a little closer. We are roughly 3 hours drive from Dublin & Rosslaire Ferryports, 70 minutes from Cork ferryport. Save on expensive kennel fees bring your dog on holiday.

Well behaved dogs welcome & can stay in your room while you are on the premises. They can be walked on a lead in our large garden & surrounding lanes. Children are also most welcome, no charge for babies under 2 years. We provide a free travel cot & high chair.

We have wireless WiFi broadband which laptop users can avail of. Packed lunch menu (with free flask fill) also available, bring your own flask.

We offer an extensive breakfast menu including full Irish & locally smoked kippers. Vegetarian/Soya options available. We have free range hens who lay us fresh eggs every day. Children are welcome to help collect eggs & stroke the chicks if we have any.

We are ideally located as a central base for exploring the Cork/Kerry region. Places to visit within 1 hour drive :- Liscarroll Donkey Sanctuary (free entry), Millstreet Country Park, Ballybunnion Beach, Blarney Castle, Cork City, Muckross House & Traditional Working Farm, the Lakes of Killarney, , Tralee, Crag Caves, Foynes Flying Boat Museum, Doneraille Park, Kenmare & Listowel.

The Lonely Planet Guide has ranked Cork City as one of 2010s must see destinations. It is about 1 hour's drive from Newmarket to Cork city. More information on the link page to Cork/Kerry tourism below but these are the most well known attractions in the Cork area :- Blarney Castle & gardens, Fota Wildlife Park, Cobh (Titanic's last port of call), Crawford Art Gallery, The Opera House, St Finbarr's Cathedral, Shandon Bells, The English Market.

THE LOCAL AREA:-

The local area is known as Duhallow. Newmarket is a small town with a selection of shops, pubs, fast food outlets & an excellent Chinese restaurant. Scullys Bar has traditional Irish music sessions every Monday night. There is a children's playground & tennis courts. Just outside the town is a small wood, here you will find Mylons cave; a small cave steeped in local folklore & tradition which is accessible with care. Close by is Meelin, the highest village in Ireland. Meelin & the surrounding area were renowned for lime extraction & its said Meelin lime was used in the construction of St Finbarr's Cathedral in Cork.

Newmarket is situated part way along the Beara Breifne Way (BBW) a new waymarked cycle/walking route from Beara in Cork to Breifne in Co. Leitrim. See links below for further details on the route.

Kanturk, just 5 minutes drive from Newmarket, has a good choice of restaurants & many bars including Bobs Bar which has good food & traditional Irish music every Sunday night 6-8pm. Kanturk also has a 3 screen cinema, Kanturk castle & a beautiful riverside park. Trout fishing allowed with a day ticket.

If you are planning a walking holiday especially with your dog, then Mountain View is the place for you. We are close to the Mullaghareirk Mountains & there are several Trailhead (waymarked) looped walks within a 20 minute drive (leaflets available). We are near several conifer forests & peat bogs with miles of unspoilt countryside to explore. Hen Harriers, Merlin & Raven breed locally. The peat (turf) is still cut & turned by local people for fuel in the winter, this peat is drying in the sunshine.



Fly fishing for wild brown trout is available locally on the Rivers Dallau & Allow, day ticket needed. Also Ballyhass Lakes a managed trout fishery is just a 20 minutes drive away - open all year

Native red squirrels can often be see in Island Wood Forest Recreation Area. This is a large mature wood 2 miles from Newmarket with river walks & a picturesque picnic area. Dogs can be walked off the lead & it's suitable for buggies/wheelchairs in places. See Gallery for photographs.

In nearby Castleisland are the spectacular Crag Caves, guided tours available every hour. There is a fine restaurant, extensive gift shop & a large ball pond play area for small children. See links below.

For golfers we are an ideal base for playing several courses; Macroom, Kanturk, Charleville, Mallow, Cork, Abbeyfeale, Ballinamona, Blarney, Beaufort & the famous links course at Ballybunnion being just a few. Newmarket itself has a floodlit golf driving range.

Tralee has plenty to offer the visitor. The Aquadome is a large indoor swimming pool with wave machine, watershutes & saunas/gym for adults. It also has outdoor mini "aqua" golf in the summer months & a multiplex cinema next door. Blennerville Steam Railway and Windmill are close by. There is very good birdwatching on the estuary nearby.

For those interested in researching family history other villages nearby also include; Rockchapel, Kiskeam, Freemount, Lismire, Boherbue, Liscarroll, Ballydesmond, Brosna & Taur.

ACCOMMODATION DETAILS (we are open all year except Christmas & New Year)

We have 2 large en-suite rooms & can sleep 5 adults + extra children:- A spacious ground floor (downstairs) room with king-size bed. It is especially suited to less able bodied guests who might have difficulty managing stairs. Upstairs we have an equally large family room with 3 single beds. Colour TV, clock radio, hairdryer, towels & hospitality tray provided in both rooms. We have ample off road car parking

We offer free wireless WiFi broadband internet access for laptop users or for a small charge guests can avail of broadband internet access on our home computer to check emails/book in online for flights etc

Accommodation including full breakfast : 28 Euro pppn (based on 2 sharing) there is a 7 Euro per night single supplement

Babies under 2 : free of charge
Children between 2 & 14 years sharing
their parents room : 10 Euro per child per night

Dogs: 5 Euro per dog per night (maximum of 3 dogs per room)

Payment methods: Irish Euro cheque (with guarantee card), cash on arrival (Euros only) or Paypal, a secure online payment service which allows you to pay with a credit/debit card as long as you have an email address. I do require a small deposit for advance bookings payable either by personal/credit union cheque (Euro or stirling cheques accepted) or by Paypal.
